// project: book cover //

Thought I'd share this project I did this afternoon.... I used THIS tutorial to cover a book( the only difference with a softcover is that you trim the tabs at the spine instead of tucking them in.) Then I used acrylics to paint the design. I did a layout sketch first, I really did, but I messed up somewhere and so the letters aren't centered. Next time I'll be more careful:) The horse and lettering was free-handed. Anyways, I hope to try to share more creative/art/etc. posts here as time goes on... also, I'd love to have guest posts if anyone's interested (and can walk me through how to do that;)

 And, you should read this book. Even though it has an ugly original cover in the current paperback edition:) It's simple and lovely and set in Italy... It's one of those horse books you read as a kid but then actually continue to like. Marguerite Henry was one of, if not my favorite authors when I was little and liked horses. And although I don't love horses now(actually I'm a little scared of them, but still love to paint them) and like other author better, her books still hold a special place in my heart.

p.s. if you're on Instagram, prepare to be disappointed by mine- it's all art and I'm still working towards what I want my aesthetic to be. My sister, however, has artsy photography so if you're looking for that vibe, check her out @rynd01

  1. Aaaah this is fabulous! Love the colors, love the painting, love the idea! It's funny because I picked up a copy of Tuck Everlasting a while ago which has a horrendously awful movie cover and I wanted to do something similar to this for it. I guess now I'm going to have to actually do it! Oh, and I love Marguerite Henry too! I read as many of her books as I could get my hands on when I was younger, and I read Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West about a million times. I've never actually read Gaudenzio before though, so I'll have to check that one out as well! Also (this comment is getting too long yikes) I may have to get Instagram now to follow you and Ryn! And I wouldn't worry about your aesthetic too much because I think you've definitely created a blog that does a great job of conveying a certain feeling which is totally amazing and I'm sure you'll be able to extend that to Instagram too. Also I'm looking forward to checking out Ryn's account because I'm sure it's fantastic too <3

    1. Thank you!!! Oh I hope to see it if you do :D Ah yes.... I think I read every single one of hers and honestly I don't remember which was my favorite! I remember that one having a happy love story :3 Oh yes you should- it's a great story, plus it's set in Italy, and to top it off has a super authentic feel. No, no I LOVE long comments:) Really I do. Aw I hope to see you on there soon! Well, thank you, that really means a lot... my blog pleases me to look upon. My Pinterest and Insta- less so. Oh well. I'm just a little messier than your average hipster-aestheticy artist-writer girl so I guess that's how it's going to be:) YES. Her photos are fab. Thanks for the comment <3
